Morning loves! I’m currently writing from my bed looking for inspiration. I know you’re what you’re probably thinking…you’re in bed looking for inspiration? That doesn’t sound very inspiring! Well, if that is indeed what you’re thinking, you would be very mistaken because right next to my bed is my wall of inspiration.  It’s covered with pictures of people I admire.  Today, I noticed that the American actress Zoey Deschanel takes up a pretty substantial portion of the wall. So, who better to talk about? Zoey Deschanel really struck it big when she landed her role as Anita, the older sister of William (played by Michael Angaro) in Almost Famous.  The movie itself it definitely one of my favorites (post to follow).  Then, Zoey proceeded to take smaller and often supporting roles in a variety of indie films until she starred with Will Ferrel in nationally shown flick Elf. It was then that producers realized not only could this girl act, but she could sing. Check out her version of Baby It’s Cold Outside from the movie.  Zoey is an amazingly talented actress with a breath taking voice.  If you don’t believe me, check out her band She & Him.  My favorite songs off the 2008 released album are Sentimental Heart, I Thought I Saw Your Face Today, and Why Do You Let Me Stay Here.  Besides, her album and her various courageous film roles Zoey Deschanel has a style all her own.  Here are some of her best looks…

Factory Girl, Nikki from Alfie…need I say more?

Sienna Miller has mastered the look of the modern bohemian.  Through her various character roles like Edie Sedgewick in Factory Girl and Nikki in Alfie (with Jude Law), she epitomizes the idea of the beautiful female muse.  Whether she’s wearing a short pixiesque crop or long banged blond tresses, Sienna carries her look with her bold fashion sense.  Both characters: Edie and Nikki are gorgeous, stylish, and incredibly unpredictable.  While the previous adjectives can be used to describe Sienna’s character roles, they can also describe her everyday style–gorgeous, stylish and unpredictable. I think she gets a bad rap. There may be a lot of bad rumors floating around about her, but you have to admit the girl has style.  Even if she is sleeping with a married man, the girl does have style.  Here are a few of her best looks to inspire you…

Pasadena, California raised RODARTE

“Oh hi I’m Meghan, where are you from,” says a tall brunette on my first day of college.

” I’m from Pasadena, California. You know where the Rose bowl is?” I reply.

“The Rose Bowl? Never heard of it…”

The previous response is one I’ve come accustom to hearing. I say Pasadena and people seem to have no idea what I’m talking about. I often mention that Rumor Has It, the movie with Jennifer Anniston that tells the real story of Mrs. Robinson in Pasadena.  Sometimes, I get a few “Oh I remember that movie!”s, but if that reference doesn’t ring any bells,  I’ll mention the rhyme the Little Old Lady of Pasadena. And, then when I’m really desperate, I call upon the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl.  For those of you who don’t know, The ROSE PARADE and ROSE BOWL are SHOWN NATIONALLY!!! So If you still don’t know what I’m talking about when I say Pasadena, you should try sometime 032409_witherspoon_200x400turning on the television around the holidays!  On New Year’s Day anyone with basic cable can see my very own hometown of Pasadena! It is right out of Los Angeles after all!

Anyways, now that you all know about Pasadena, I thought I would take some time to talk about fellow Pasadena natives.  The famous design duo Rodarte has had a great couple of years.  They went from being utterly unknown to debuting at fashion week in 2005. Rodarte is made up of two sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy. The girls combine innovative wrapping techniques with beautifully crafted silhouettes turning their models into bonafied futuristic goddesses. In their most recent collection Fall 2009 RTW, they use narrow belts to accent their models tiny waists as well as crinkled, leathery textured fabrics to engulf their models’ shoulders and torso. One of the most innovative aspects of their designs is the black or leathery grey thigh high boots they combine with every outfit. Instead of using typical neckline styles like a boatneck, v-neck, or even crew neck, the Mulleavy’s opted for a very high neckline occasionally paired with a circle style scarf.  The designers use the models bodies as art transforming their shoulders and torsos into almost sculpturesque forms. Kate and Laura Mulleavy have become so successful that famous celebrities can be seen wearing their designs on the red carpet. For example, most recently Reese Witherspoon and Natalie Portman showed up to the Oscar’s this year in Rodarte’s designs.  The Pasadena designers may have become instantaneously famous, but I have no doubt that their fame will last for years to come. I wish the same could be said for the city of Pasadena, California.

Kaya Scodelario–new favorite bad ass

While Leighton and Kaya might both be beautiful burnettes, their character’s styles couldn’t be more different.  Being an American myself, I had never heard of the British teen drama Skins.  One of my close friends got me into the show the week of midterms. I watched the first two seasons before I flew to California for Spring break sadly resulting mediocre mid term grades…oh well… Anyways, The show is completely addicting.  It engulfs it’s audience into a world of teenage issues like drugs, sex, alcohol, eating disorders and family drama in the town of Bristol.  It’s basically like the British version of Gossip Girl or the OC without the pretentious rich kids.  The directors of Skins decided to give the show a new vision in the third season opting for an almost entirely new cast. The only two cast members who manage to stand their ground are Tony Stonem’s younger sister Elizabeth (Effy) Stonem and her friend Pandora.  Effy Stonem is played by Kaya Scodelario.  She is a drop dead gorgeous 16 year old who doesn’t care what anybody else thinks. She is the stereotypical rebellious teenager.  In the show’s third season, through a variety of family issues she manages to reveal herself to the audience. We can finally look past the icy, cold exterior and begin to realize there is an actual caring human being behind all the black eyeliner and pretty pouting. Recently, I’ve been attempting to copy Effy’s character style with a little bit less attitude. I couldn’t find as many pictures of her look as I would like, but here’s one picture that pretty much captures it.

Let’s talk about Leighton Meester…

Ok so I’ve been having a bad week. After a tragic St. Patrick’s day and a long Wednesday of skipping most of my classes, the only thing that managed to cheer me up was the most recent episode of Gossip Girl. It wasn’t a great episode, but Leighton Meester always seems to lighten up my day. I love her catty vindictive depiction of Blair Waldorf. Not only does she represent Blair from the Gossip Girl books impeccably, but she manages to look amazing while doing it. I have to say, usually I don’t really like the preppy, over pretentious look of the some of the upper east siders on Gossip Girl.  Somehow, Leighton’s pretty prep look manages to work.

Here are a few of my favorite Leighton Meester outfits…

Rachel Bilson and her dog

Here is a candid of Rachel Bilson with her dog in Los Angeles, California.  I have a question. How does Rachel Bilson manage to look so adorable all the time? She always manages to look stylish, skinny, and chic.  One thing she always has with her–her black rayban wayfarers.  I think no matter her outfit she uses these sunglasses to upgrade it to a different level. On anybody else, I think the sunglasses are a little too hipster, but she really started the trend.  She also masters the messy-bun look. On her little frame, I think she can really rock any outfit. She’s definitely one of today’s biggest style icons.

Worry, Self Doubt, Confusion…

I start this post in the mindset of confusion, self-consciousness, worry and self doubt. Ultimately several questions are bouncing off the walls of my skull: why should you read this? Why should you care? Why am I writing this? Is anybody ever going to read this? While I may not have all the answers just yet, I may be able to change my own opinion whist changing some of yours. Firstly, I think you should know a little bit about me. In short, I’m a complete weirdo. Not your average everyday kind of weirdo either, As my friends would call me I’m “weird-weird.” While some of you may have friends that are normal-weird or funny-weird, I doubt many of you tolerate those rare few that call themselves “weird-weird.”  I’m the odd girl who can only whistle out of the side of her mouth, that strange creature who is always humming along during movies, and the individual who creates and uses her own language when trying to describe things.  Now you might ask yourself, Why should you trust or listen to what such a strange person has to say? Well get ready because weirdo is going to tell you!

Ever since I was a little girl, I have worshipped everything to do with fashion. I’ve always loved pretty things. It’s part of my personality. The birthday book even says so. (The Birthday book is a famous book in my household. It tells about a person’s traits and personality based on the date they were born. I refer to it on many occasions. Often at times of self doubt and confusion such as this) (side note: Prince William and I share the same birthday–if the rest of the information about myself doesn’t make me feel better, this little fact always does the trick)  Anyways, back to my point I worshipped fashion. I lived for magazines and shopping trips. I think my love of fashion spurred from my mother’s tendency to overshop.  When she was a kid, her mother never let her have anything. She always tells the story of how her mother  never let her own a pair of jeans until she was 18 and they were a pair of painters pants from her uncle)  Thus, because of her parents’ shortcomings as a kid, she overcompensated for her own children.  For the overshopping, I would like to tell my mother that I am eternally grateful because without it I would have never found my true love, FASHION. It’s because of my love affair that I am starting this blog.  While I spend time in Boston getting my business degree, I can pursue my true love fashion.   So to anybody that stumbles upon this humble fashion blog, I promise to discuss all forms of style. I promise to give you my honest opinion. (While I may be weird in other aspects of my life, I’m pretty sure my fashion opinion makes up for it) So, finally with some of the self doubt on my shoulders lifted, let’s get started…because style is everywhere and it should always be talked about.

peace and love,

Rae
