Newly crowned pop princess Lady Gaga screams for us to read her “Poker Face,” give her a “Summer Boy,” and most importantly to “Just Dance!” Following her lead are spring trends, calling for everything Ballet inspired.  From leotards to leggings, dance wear is making a big comeback. Cruel Summer: Blestenation Bosworth

Being a californian, with Summer comes surfing.  While surfing isn’t exactly my forte, I’m constantly encouraged to paddle harder, kick faster, and stay out longer because of the appeal that comes with being a surfer girl. I’m not talking about the six pack abs, toned arms, or the golden tan. I want the carefree existence, the go hard or go home mentality and the connection to nature. The best example of this intriguing ideal is the inspiring surfer chick flick Blue Crush. Kate Bosworth stars as Annamarie Chadwick.  With rock hard abs and the perfect tan, Annamarie was fearless.  After riding the perfect wave at Pipe Masters at the end of the film, AnnaMarie catipults herself into the surfing spotlight.  While Annamarie may have scored a deal with Billabong, Kate managed to land roles in several high budget films launching her career.  Kate Bosworth has sadly moved away from her surfer girl image into a classy sophisticated woman.  I may be sad to see the surfer girl long gone, but I’m happy to see the stylish woman Kate has become.  Kate still manages to live a laid-back surfer-esque lifestyle, just without the bikini and board shorts.  Here are some of her best looks…

Moroccan Summer

Summer is approaching fast…April is almost over and most Boston colleges get out in early May. The whole idea of seasons is entirely new for me. It’s a part of the East coast I’m starting to fall in love with.  Winter is harsh, but watching those little tulip plants blossom out of the icy dirt. Let’s just say…Nature is pretty amazing. It’s time to shift gears.  Swap out our Frye Boots, Cashmere wraps and peacoats for maxi-dresses, gladiator sandals and rounded sunglasses. Summer trends can be pretty exciting. This year a huge trend is everything Moroccan inspired. While I can’t say I’ve ever been to Morocco, this season it’s not hard to pretend I have.  With beautiful bold prints, gold/silver embellishments, flowy bohemian silohuettes and statement jewelry, it’s easy to say we just got back from Marrakesh? Here are some Moroccan inspired items to stock your wardrobe this summer…

Everything Olsen

I know an Olsen twins post. You’re probably sarcastically thinking–wow how original, but seriously these girls have been stylish since well, birth!  Their style is constantly evolving. The two first hit the real style scene in their teens. We can all remember Mary-Kate’s style choices:  the peasant skirts, cowboy boots, starbucks ventis and huge sunglasses.  Ashley’s style was less trendy. She often opted for classic bold pieces making many of her choices timeless.  Recently, MaryKate has taken some style advice from her sister.  The twins pull off the inconceivable look of trendy/classic. I’m here to honor the stylish. So without further adeiu, here is an ode to the Olsen’s.

Supermodel Style: Daria Werbowy

Daria is one of those supermodels who flies underneath the radar.  She isn’t highly publicized in the media for galavanting wildly through London late at night like a certain British blonde we know…ehemm Kate Moss. She also isn’t basking in her fame begging paparazzi to take her picture…ehhmm Noami Campbell.  Daria is older than most models of today. She was born in Poland in 1983, but that doesn’t stop her.  With chestnut locks, piercing blue eyes, and extremely high cheek bones, Daria is a vision.  She is somewhat of a chameleon transforming into a kohl eyed vamp for one shoot and then a classic Upper East side princess for another.  Daria also has no fear posing nude for the camera. She carries that same fearless attitude into her own personal style. Here are some of her best looks…

Frye Boots

Have you ever searched for the perfect pair of boots? The pair that works in all seasons.  The pair that can be worn with a peasant skirt a la Mary Kate Olsen hippie chic or a pair of dark skinny jeans a la Sienna Miller.  The pair that rises above all the rest and doesn’t wear out? The pair that you get compliments on time and time again.  Well, ladies I have found them.  The boots of our dreams.  Frye boots have just enough edge to look motorcycle-eque with just enough toe to look western. They have a little bit of heel without being obvious.  The Frye Company makes their famous harnessed boot in many colors and styles.  These boots carry with them a sense of attitude and must be worn with confidence…

500 Days of Summer

I know this blog is supposed to be strictly dedicated to fashion, but i wanted to take the time to talk about a upcoming movie. Since many of you seem to be somewhat obsessed with Zooey Deschanel, I thought I should talk about one of her new movies. The movie is 500 Days of Summer.  In the flick, Zooey plays Summer, the love interest of Tom, who is played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Remember him? From 10 Things I Hate About You? He definitely grew up…in a really really good way. Anyways, Zooey plays a spontaneous young woman, who doesn’t believe in true love.  She has had countless boyfriends and dumped them all.  After hearing that she loves the Smiths (Check out the song: There is a light that won’t go out–AMAZING), Tom falls head over heels in love with her.  The film claims to not be a love story, but I highly doubt the film will play out otherwise. Zooey starts the trailer by breaking up with Tom.  He then proceeds to remember all of their times together hence the film’s title (500 days).  I can’t wait to see this movie.  I’m sure it’s not going to be life-changing, but I think I’ll get some enjoyment out of it and maybe even some style inspiration, Zooey does look cute in the short trailer.  check out the movie in theaters August 20th…

High fashion Post: Erdem Fall 2009 RTW
April 14, 2009, 10:52 pm
Filed under: Erdem, High Fashion | Tags: , , ,

While fashion week may have come and gone, I still haven’t had a chance to fully review all of the collections.  I also noticed this blog was severely lacking high fashion posts. Anyway, I tend to unconsciously start with the more well known designers when browsing fashion week, which means I often overlook some of the most talented ones.  A designer that should really be discussed despite his unrecognizable name is Erdem Moralioglu.

If I could describe Erdem’s Fall 2009 Ready To Wear Collection in one word it would be playful.  With extravagant prints and silky black hues, the designer Erem Moralioglu successfully captures the frivolity and spirit of the london gal.  His collection was mostly shorter baby doll and empire waist mini style dresses in silk fabrics; however, in the final few looks he used a longer dress style with an almost mandarin-esque collar.  Besides for playful, his collection was very young.  All of his outfits seemed perfect for the classy British party girl.  I have to say, most of the time I’m not a big print person, but there were a few prints I just loved. He claims he gets the ideas for his prints from all of his travels prior to becoming a designer. His opening look was very creative with his use of color detail on the front of the dress.  I especially favored the solid looks, like the deep blue short sleeve flowered mini dress and the black flower detail dress.  Erdem’s use of detail is impeccable from the detailed flowers on the hemline of the some of the dresses to the print consistency in the ankle boots. Here are some of my favorite looks from the collection…
