Backpack I’ve been sporting all summer long…

Remember the days of the Prada backpack?  While the days of knee high socks and Cher from Clueless are long gone, I think it’s time for backpacks to make a comeback.  Now, even students are opting out of the useful accessory choosing tote bags or messenger bags instead. I love a great messenger, but with all that single shoulder strain I don’t think they’re worth it. A purse can be great for the summer, but with added accessories like beach towels, swimsuits, sunglasses, and sunscreen, most of us need something with more space.  This summer instead of carrying around a purse or holding my cell phone, car keys and wallet in my hands, I’ve been using a back pack.  Not just any backpack, this one doubles as a purse! You can adjust the straps and wear the item both ways!  Here is a picture of what I’ve been carrying around…

This backpack is vintage so I can’t tell you where to get it, but keep an eye out for your perfect backpack. I’m telling you they’re worth it!

Go to your nearest library and check it out…literally!

Vogue Dialogues edited by Conde Nast Germany. I’m sure there are many editions of this book. I managed to get my hands on the German Vogue edition. With the coming of German Vogue’s 25th anniversary (2004), Vogue Dialogues was published. The book is filled with a variety of conversations between important people within the fashion industry including pictures of the duos. Some examples of the conversations include: Manolo Blahnik and John Galliano, Karl Lagerfeld and Gabrielle Henkel, and Gianfranco Ferre and Andre Leon Talley.  Many of the conversations are relatively trivial, but in some instances the participants go into tangents about how they made it in the industry. It’s very interesting! Definitely worth a quick read!

Rose Byrne

I first discovered Rose Byrne in one of my favorite movies, Marie Antoinette. Byrne plays the fanciful, glamorous 18th century socialite/party-girl Duchess de Polignac. I often imitate her accent from the film by attempting to wish my friends goodbye with the classy phrase “adieu cheries” followed by a kiss on both cheeks.  The Australian actress also plays one of the leads in the popular drama/suspense television series Damages with esteemed co-star Glenn Close.  She has starred a variety of films with very successful actors such as Wicker Park, Troy and Knowing.  Even more recently, Byrne stars along side Hugh Dancy in the romantic/comedy/drama entitled Adam.  With her beautiful features and tremendous talent, her acting career is flourishing.  If Thomas Fuller was right when he said that “Good clothes open all doors,” then it’s no wonder Byrne is going places.  She dresses beautifully!  She is classy at all costs and innovative when she needs to be.  Here are some of her best looks…

A man’s watch–I love the look of an oversized men’s watch on a delicate female wrist. I tried on the watch of my friend Travis (Michael Kors) and fell in love.

Trend: Velvet

While I always thought of velvet as a fabric for older women, this month’s issue of Vogue says otherwise. With young designers such as Alexander Wang designing hip velvet bomber jackets, velvet has become the new obsession for Fall.

Grai: Designer Profile

Looking at gorgeous leather jackets in Opening Ceremony, I stumbled upon many up and coming designers.  My favorite jacket-maker had to be Grai.  The designer of Grai is Maya Yogev, a Los Angeles native.  Yogev has a pretty substantial background in design.  After fashion school in 2002, she worked under the designer, Rick Owens. At one point in her life, Yogev even designed a line of clothing for the band Black Sabbath.  Yogev’s line Grai was created to craft the perfect jackets and coats.  Yogev blends buttery leathers with harsher fabrics crafting beautiful textures and patterns. She drapes her jacket fabrics to look like sculptures. Her draping is not unlike that of Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s.  The collars on her coats are so amazing.  Imagine a sweater’s cowl neck on a leather jacket! Each seam is meticulously sewn as if to seem like the jacket is a piece of nature and can never be taken apart.

Speaking of YSL

Everything Yves Saint Laurent makes is beautiful, but I’m especially talking about their accessories. My mom just bought these new shoes from YSL. I seriously love them. The neutral color makes legs look miles long. Plus, the platform is just the right amount of crazy. I don’t when I’m going to EVER be able to borrow them! Most likely, never!

I also just love the YSL Besace Flap Bag Sienna Miller has been carrying around. I love a great gray bag. It looks very functional with the cute strap detailing on the front.
