Trend: Velvet

While I always thought of velvet as a fabric for older women, this month’s issue of Vogue says otherwise. With young designers such as Alexander Wang designing hip velvet bomber jackets, velvet has become the new obsession for Fall.

Favorites from the Met Ball..

Sorry I haven’t been posting recently. I’m struggling as it’s finals week, but I just had to devote at least one post to the Met Ball that was last night.  The dresses/ensembles were simply too beautiful to put off. While the theme was “models as muses,” I think more than just the models’ outfits were muse-worthy. Here are some of my favs…some commentary included…    (photos: style.com)

Ashley Olsen in her own line The Row (I love her new haircut, very Gwenyth)

Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson (she's wearing Chanel Haute Couture) I have to say I'm always a fan of Chanel's white lace (remember Maggie Gyllenhall's white lace with pink bow?)

Kate Hudson, Stella McCartney, Liv Tyler and Kate Bosworth (all of these dresses are just beautiful. Props to Stella she designed them all!) I especially love both Kates' dresses. She captured their essences so well!

Erin Wasson in Phi and Lady Amanda Harlech (I really like Erin Wasson's look. It's not exactly Met Ball appropriate, but I love the edge she always carries with her. The paints look very Alexander Wang.)

Newly crowned pop princess Lady Gaga screams for us to read her “Poker Face,” give her a “Summer Boy,” and most importantly to “Just Dance!” Following her lead are spring trends, calling for everything Ballet inspired.  From leotards to leggings, dance wear is making a big comeback. Here are some re-invented ways to sport the trend…

Rainy Day Women

The old saying “April Showers Bring May Flowers” could not be more correct. We’ve only had four days of April, but here in Boston  we’re seeing more and more wet weather. I think rain is probably one of the most confusing weather conditions to dress for. You don’t know if it’s cold rain, hot rain or somewhere in between. Frizzy hair, patchy skin, wet clothes, drippy makeup…these symptoms don’t seem too appealing. Sadly, they are the side effects of rainy weather.  While these unfortunate results of rain seem unavoidable, there are ways to still look great in the rain.  Just look at how these ladies prepare for rainy weather…
