Because I’m Leaving on a Jet Plane

Let’s face it, when we go to the airport we tend to not only dress for comfort. While  long layovers, flight delays, cramped seats, security checks and stale plane air tend to point to sweat pants and flip flops as the best flying apparel, these aren’t really options for the stylish jet setter.  At the airport, one is inclined to casually dress to impress. Fellow travelers may only be random strangers, but people watching at the airport is by far the most popular activity, and most of us wouldn’t want to be caught in anything less than stylish.  Here are a few celebs who manage to master flying fashion without getting stuck in style security…

Penny Lane, the muse behind the “Almost Famous” Beatles song

To start this post, I’d like to pose the question–What is your favorite movie? I know, it’s not an easy question to answer at the drop of a hat. And while I can’t exactly answer the question, I can think of a few that will always top my list. I have to say, I’m a lover of period pieces. I love movies stuck in time zones different from the one we’re stuck in today.  By period pieces though, I don’t necessarily mean all the way back to the 18th century, although I did manage to love Marie Antoinette (who didn’t? Versailles was so beautifully tragic!–post to follow). I also happen to be a sucker for beauty.  If the film doesn’t have an interesting plot, most of the time I don’t care as long as what I’m watching is aesthetically pleasing. Shallow? Yes, kind of but who am I kidding it’s part of my personality (once again you’ll need to refer to the birthday book for that one).

Anyways, A film that will always make it to the top of my list is “Almost Famous.”  Yes, I know it’s a period piece, but I’m okay with that.  The movie isn’t one of those that I have to overlook the problems in plot and character development to enjoy.  The film is wonderfully developed as well as tragically beautiful. Directed by Cameron Crowe, It tells the tale of a fifteen year old boy attempting to become a Rock and Roll journalist. In the hopes of getting an interview with Black Sabbath, he ends up meeting their opening band Stillwater.  The boy, William is dragged into the world of sex, drugs, and rock and roll overnight.  He spends weeks on tour with the band.  On his journey, he mets another youngster, the famous Penny Lane played by Kate Hudson.  Now since this blog is about style, I feel I should cut to the chase.  One of the reasons I love “Almost Famous” besides the love affair between Penny Lane and Russell Hammond (lead singer of Stillwater), is Penny Lane’s effortless, bohemian, band-aid, (not groupie) style.  With her long fur lined coats, her blue tinted glasses, and her long wavy blonde hair, she leaves audiences with the feeling of freedom, rebellion, and all that is Rock and Roll during the 70s.   Her are some of her best looks…
