Be a Wild Thing… to the MAX!

This year for Halloween, instead of opting for the traditional college slutty girl costume I was going to go for something original, something of-the-moment, something fun…I was going to be Max from Where the Wild Things Are! I thought I’d find that perfect onesie (who knows where!), a cute little gold crown and I’d make a pair of ears. After looking at one of my favorite fashion inspiration (I say, inspiration because rarely can I ever afford anything in the store) websites, Opening Ceremony I found my costume! Spike Jonze (director of the movie) teamed up with Opening Ceremony (the clothing store) to create a Where the Wild Things Are collection. I was elated! I’ve loved the book ever since I was a little kid and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the fur onesie the models on the website were sporting! One problem: the onesie is $610!!! I’m sorry, I know Opening Ceremony is expensive, but $610 for a onesie! That’s ridiculous! The entire collection is adorable (all the fur is fake, too!), but there is no way I would ever pay that much for something I would wear on only a few occasions.

Anyways, moral of the story…1) See Where the Wild Things Are in theaters October 16th, 2) Make sure to listen to Wake Up by Arcade Fire nonstop before the film comes out and 3) If you’re planning on being Max for Halloween go to Joanne’s fabric store and make your own damn onesie!

Grai: Designer Profile

Looking at gorgeous leather jackets in Opening Ceremony, I stumbled upon many up and coming designers.  My favorite jacket-maker had to be Grai.  The designer of Grai is Maya Yogev, a Los Angeles native.  Yogev has a pretty substantial background in design.  After fashion school in 2002, she worked under the designer, Rick Owens. At one point in her life, Yogev even designed a line of clothing for the band Black Sabbath.  Yogev’s line Grai was created to craft the perfect jackets and coats.  Yogev blends buttery leathers with harsher fabrics crafting beautiful textures and patterns. She drapes her jacket fabrics to look like sculptures. Her draping is not unlike that of Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s.  The collars on her coats are so amazing.  Imagine a sweater’s cowl neck on a leather jacket! Each seam is meticulously sewn as if to seem like the jacket is a piece of nature and can never be taken apart.

Check out Opening Ceremony in person to see the cowl neck jackets–they don’t have pictures on their website!

Of the Moment…

With no job, no money, and no sun, I’ve been fighting off inside boredom with the help of Kobe, my macbook.  I’ve been fashion blog/magazine reading like nobody’s business.  I’ve come up with a few current obsessions in no particular order–a medley of blogs, trends, looks and celebrities that I can’t stop talking about.

First obsession–the store Opening Ceremony:

Aimed at the young and obscenely wealthy with some pieces of clothing ranging into the thousands, Opening Ceremony is a very expensive store.  With two locations: New York and Los Angeles, Opening Ceremony carries a lot of brand new designers.  The clothing may be expensive, but you are really paying for the innovation.  The store carries pieces you won’t see anywhere else. When I visited the store’s La Cinega Blvd location just last year (for inspiration solely), I stumbled upon actress Chloe Sevigny’s collection. This year, on the store’s website I fell in love with few pieces designed by model and Alexander Wang muse Erin Wasson.  This store has Nylon Magazine written all over it.  Here are a few pieces I would love to own…

Second obsession–A few accessories from Barney’s (hopefully no summary required) that I would also love to own…

Third Obsession—Black Cab Sessions

Artists sit in the back of a taxi and debut some of their music live…raw gritty music–fun site to explore

Most recently Lykke Li was in the passenger seat.

Fourth Obsession—A few celebs to throw into the mix

1. Michelle Monaghan

The dress is pretty crazy, but I think the print works because of the dress’ simple classic cut.

2. Diane Kruger

I love the ladylike (hairstyle and skirt) with the edgy boots and leather jacket.
